Psihokratija were a duo from Serbia formed in 1988 by Gorjan Krstić (keyboards, synths, composer) and Zoran Petrović (lead vocal), playing a gloomy hybrid of minimal-synth, darkwave and brooding new wave. In 1989 Wessely Carel joined band on keyboards and Psihokratija as a trio recorded their first album entitled “Album Mentalnih Fotografija”. After that, Gorjan Krstić recorded a second album with different line-up that was never released. Later on civil war has started in Yugoslavia, Psihokratija disbanded and faded into obscurity for years.

Album begins with ‘Who Is Alive, Who Is Dead’, which is the only track sung in English, the rest is in Serbo-Croatian and these unique sounding vocals and languages helped Psihokratija stand apart from many other artists contemporary of that era.

If you’re into the darker side of eighties music, you should not skip this brilliant hidden gem. As far as references go, Psihokratija’s atmospheric and haunting sound could appeal to fans of early The Cure, new wave era of Killing Joke or the classic The Sisters of Mercy sound.

Recorded in Belgrade in 1988 and originally self-released album only on a tape, “Album Mentalnih Fotografija” (“Album of Mental Pictures”) was the only published release from Psihokratija. Bat-Cave Productions cd version is an official re-release of the 1988 tape remastered from the original master tapes and approved by the band and Gorjan Krstić. CD include 17 tracks (“Album Mentalnih Fotografija” + 9 bonus tracks)
